Dale Nickell had his first encounter with the organ at the Halloween Organ Extravaganza at CSU, the very first time he had seen and heard a pipe organ in person.
In the few years since then, he has taken up its study with a love for sacred music and a fascination with the instrument while showing extraordinary musical growth and potential. Dale has received prestigious musical awards and scholarships such as the Wendel Diebel Music Performance Award.
He serves as the organist at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Fort Collins and as the assistant organist at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fort Collins. He is a senior organ performance major at Colorado State University under the instruction of Dr. Joel Bacon. He also studies piano with Dr. Janet Landreth.
Reception to follow.

Sherry & Shortbread reception to follow (nonalcoholic beverages will also be served).
Learn more about Evensong at this Spiritual Deepening event at 9:30am on Sunday, March 5.
"Choral Evensong is a 45-min long peace-inducing church service in which the ‘song’ of voices sounding together in harmony is heard at the ‘even’ point between the active day and restful night, allowing listeners time for restful contemplation – Church members, agnostics and atheists alike. It is both free of charge and free of religious commitment, and its choral music is performed live and often to a very high standard." - choralevensong.org
Learn about Evensong in the Episcopal tradition, just in time to experience it tonight.
The history of Evensong is rooted in The Daily Office, dating to the time of the first Book of Common Prayer in 1549. The background of the Daily Office as well as Evensong will be discussed.
Facilitator Loretta Russell Hoffman studied Liturgy and Music of the Church in preparation for becoming an Organist-Choirmaster in the Episcopal Church.
Evensong… “a fragment of the worship which is offered to God by Christian people every hour in every part of the world. When you come to Evensong it is as if you were dropping in on a conversation already in progress — a conversation between God and people which began long before you were born and will go on long after you are dead.”
Evensong offers us the opportunity to gather and spend time in prayer while listening and participating in music that is especially selected to bring us into deeper understanding of the mysteries of our faith.

It's the Feast Day of St. Luke and we are celebrating with Bach!
Start the morning off right by joining us at 9:30 am in the Library for “Bach’s Musical Cornucopia” an enlightening pre-service discussion of J.S. Bach lead by Dr. Angela Mace Christian, Colorado State University Assistant Professor of music history in the School of Music.
Then at 10:30 a.m., join us for a worship service that will be a feast for the senses.
This beautifully crafted service will include famous Bach hymns and organ works and culminates with J.S. Bach’s Cantata #187 instead of a sermon. This musical offering praises God as the primary source of bodily and spiritual nourishment. St. Luke’s is excited to incorporate instrumentalists from Colorado State University and stunning soloists from around our community with our choir and world-class organ.
Following such Divine spiritual sustenance, and in line with Bach’s German roots, we’ll feed the body at a rousing barbecue complete with bratwurst, assorted microbrews and root beer and polka music performed by CSU’s Neue Polka Colorado (NPC).
NPC is a polka band for the 21st century. Inspired by the singing, playing, camaraderie, and antics of the town bands of Central Europe, the band is exclusively brass instruments, and is populated almost entirely by music majors at Colorado State University. They describe themselves as one part Oktoberfest, one part 1990s mix tape and 100% fun.
