St. Luke's Supports Days for Girls by Collecting Panties for Feminine Hygiene Kits

July 22 & 29

1 in 10 girls in Sub-Saharan Africa...

113 million adolescent girls in India...

30% of girls in rural Brazil... will miss school this year

Around the world, girls miss school because of stigmas about menstruation, or because they don't have feminine-hygiene supplies. Often girls and women resort to using rags, mattress stuffing, banana leaves, feathers, and even cow dung to manage their menstruation. Days for Girls wants to change that.

Days for Girls provides a safe, beautiful, washable, and long-lasting alternative - along with vital health education.

Why Days for Girls? When we mobilize girls and women, their communities and our world grow stronger.  Pads are a small thing that make a big difference.

What we need:

1. GIRLS COLORED PANTIES New, girls sizes 12, 14, 16 and Women's 5 and 6. Cotton or cotton blend briefs or bikinis (nylon causes chaffing). No thongs, or boy shorts. No faces, words, or animals (butterflies are OK). We will dye whites to help hide stains.

2. COLORED WASH CLOTHS lightweight (plush ones take up too much room in the kit)

3. SOAP Hotel size bar soap only.

4. Also needed are cotton print fabrics and flannels, and 5/8" grosgrain ribbons, to sew the bags and supplies. If you have fabrics or ribbons to donate, please check with Tammie Gregori about suitable colors and fabrics. Cash donations for fabric purchases are also welcome.  tammiegregori@mac.com, 970-223-2113.

Please bring to the church between July 22 and July 29.
