Advent Reflections on Our Mighty Network
During Advent there will be many reflections and prayer practices posted in our St. Luke’s Mighty Network. If you haven’t already joined this would be a great time to. It is much like any other social media network except that it is just for the people of St. Luke’s and there aren’t algorithms influencing us. There is a great accompanying app for iphone and android that we recommend using as well. Our Mighty Network Advent Reflections will include the following this year.

AdventWord on the Mighty Network
Last year our church community participated in a global Advent observance called AdventWord and we are glad to participate again this year. AdventWord provides visual and written meditations during the liturgical season of Advent. Each morning during Advent, the meditations are distributed: on AdventWord.org, Email, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
AdventWord participants are invited to post their responses to the daily meditations on social media pages such as our St. Luke’s Mighty Network or other social media. We encourage the people of St. Luke’s to respond to the daily meditations by posting photos or written responses. You may also email them to motherkrista@stlukesfc.org or post them on our facebook page.
When you post on facebook or instagram, add the hashtag text #adventword to your post and it will be linked to people all around the world who are also responding to the daily meditation. For example, if the daily meditation asks us to reflect on ways that we see Christ in all people, you might take a photo that represents seeing Christ in someone. You can post the photo on our St. Luke’s Mighty Network or other social media and we will see it and pray over it around with you.
THE POETRY OF ADVENT: An Advent Companion To Mary Oliver’s “Devotions”
Advent is a season of waiting and watching for God to come near: keeping awake, staying alert, and paying attention. For Mary Oliver, poetry is a beautiful way to sharpen our senses, helping us notice what we might otherwise miss. In this Advent devotional, biblical texts and accessible practices interact with Oliver’s poems to create a four-week journey to Christmas morning. All you’ll need is your favorite Bible and Oliver’s classic collection, “Devotions” (all the poems in the devotional can also be found online). Week by week, we’ll walk through the woods and along the seashore, with Mary Oliver as our guide.
