Volunteers Needed For St. Luke's Lay Ministries

Calling the saints of St. Luke's. As we enter this fall in pandemic, our ministries look different, but they are still active and vital. We are finding many ways to stay connected in community, deepen in prayer, share in the sacraments and follow in the Way of Jesus' love while expressing our love by staying safe. One of the important parts of our expression of faith is the belief that we are each the body of Christ and we are all called.

Now that we know more of what church and ministry looks like in pandemic, we know more about volunteer ministry needs in our parish. Some are brand new ministries, some are long time ministries that look different in pandemic. All of them are vitally important.
Please take a look at this list of volunteer opportunities and pray over them. If you feel moved to serve in any of these volunteer positions, sign up below. Let Mother Krista know if you have any questions by emailing her at motherkrista@stlukesfc.org or by calling her at 917-363-4011.

Sunday In-Person Usher at the 11:30am service

  • As our outdoor/drive-in Sunday services grow we are finding that we need help with ushers. Ushers for this service should arrive 45 minutes early to help set-up, check people in when they park, help people find distanced spots on the lawn and help people park their cars. With a few teams of two people, ushers would serve every 2-3 weeks.

  • Needed - 6 people

Weekday Liturgical Assistants in the Church Building, Mondays at 4pm

  • In order to get communion to people who are worshipping from home, we are recording the Eucharist ahead of time during the week. Beginning Monday November 9th we will record the Eucharist on Mondays at 4pm. No more than three people will be in the sanctuary at a time (that's the number of people we have calculated are safe in the room at the same time using CO2 tests with our current HVAC system) and we will not be in there for longer than a half hour per public health guidelines. Liturgical assistants will stand near the high altar (while masked and at a distance) for the Eucharistic prayer, representing the body of Christ. You may also read a prayer or two.
