The Day of Pentecost is the culmination of the Easter Season. It commemorates the gift of the Holy Spirit, as dramatically recounted in the Acts of the Apostles (chapter 2). It is the Holy Spirit that constitutes the Holy Church (remember, the word "holy" means set apart for divine purposes). God's Holy Spirit brings people together, in the name of Christ Jesus, and imbues them with talents for a multitude of good works (ministries).
Thus, it is fitting that this coming Pentecost Sunday (May 20) St. Luke's will host a Ministry Fair. On this special Sunday, there will be one service at 9:00 a.m., followed immediately by a pot luck brunch in the Parish Hall. Not only will we gather for fellowship around a meal, but all the ministries of St. Luke's will be represented in the Parish Hall.
The ministries at St. Luke's include worship and music; meditation and prayer groups; children and youth ministries; adult spiritual education; sacred arts & crafts; visiting the elderly at assisted living facilities; welcoming and providing hospitality for newcomers and visitors; as well as caring for the grounds, building and finances of the church. There will be displays set up in the Parish Hall with ministry leaders present to describe the joy one can experience serving in these various ministries.
Please plan to join us for the May 20 Pentecost Ministry Fair! --Fr. Abshire
