What is St. Luke's Preschool? (Guest Column)

The mission of St. Luke’s Preschool is to provide a high quality early childhood education in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that will well prepare children for kindergarten and later learning. We foster joy for learning while respecting each child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth and development.

St. Luke's Preschool began using the Core Knowledge Preschool sequence in 1999 and all teachers have been trained in the curriculum. It is a developmentally appropriate, content rich, carefully designed program with high expectations for all children. The curriculum meets and exceeds all Colorado and National preschool standards.

All our classes are staffed by a team of experienced early childhood educators with an average tenure of more than ten years. Having more than one qualified teacher in the classroom has many advantages. Your child has the security of knowing that each of his/her teachers will be the adults in the classroom every day. It allows us to take a collaborative approach to observing, guiding and assessing each child's progress. Teachers are interacting with the children continuously which allows us to make decisions about when and how to respond to meet both individual and group needs. The classroom environment is carefully arranged to encourage your child's natural curiosity and support his/her growth and development.

Our day is a blend of structured and unstructured time, developmental and academic curriculum, teacher-directed and free choice activities. We believe that a balance of these differing philosophies provides the most well-balanced preschool.

A child must be three or four years old by September 15 of the year the child is to be enrolled to be eligible for our primary or pre-Kindergarten classes. We willingly work with children of diverse racial, cultural and religious backgrounds. We are currently enrolling for our 2017/2018 school year and would appreciate any recommendations. More details are available here.

The St. Luke’s Preschool and members of the St. Luke’s Church Vestry are planning a Summer Family Fellowship on Saturday, 8/12 from 3:30 to 5 pm. This fun gathering will include rock painting for a new rock garden that will be located outside the Parish Hall. We are hopeful to have past, present and future preschool families attend this event and show the history of our program.

Preschool will officially begin after Labor Day and we are anxiously awaiting meeting our new students. Please keep the school in your prayers this fall and throughout the year.
