This summer St. Luke's and St. Paul's are teaming up once again to co-host a Vacation Bible School (VBS). The theme is Experience God's Gift of Water. VBS takes place at St. Luke's Church this year.
In the Bible, Jesus recognizes water as a metaphor for spiritual replenishment and vitality: "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, 'Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water'" (John 7:37-39).
Of course, Jesus also understood that clean water is an undeniable necessity for life. Water wells, then and now--in many parts of the world--were and are the primary source for drinkable water. Thus, in addition to enjoying Bible stories, songs, art and games, our campers will be contributing to building a well in Africa. In fact, our VBS ministry has already raised $1000 towards a goal of $3,500.
This year, the camp will take place at St. Luke's, from Tuesday, June 20 through Friday, June 23. There will be a special, highly participatory Holy Communion service for the campers on Friday at 11:00am in the Church. All are welcome.
We anticipate a final enrollment close to last year, which was 40 campers, from preschool through 5th grade.
Let us keep our campers, youth counselors and adult teachers in our prayers this week!
