Last year St. Luke’s began a tradition of Bike to Church Day, and we introduced a new ritual: the Blessing of the Bicycles at the summer 9:00am Grace in the Garden service.
The blessing was greeted with great enthusiasm, with cyclists of all ages being sprinkled with holy water as they circled the parking lot.
This year the Blessing of the Bicycles will take place on Memorial Day Sunday, May 28 at 9:00am. Please note that the 9:00am service will move outdoors to the Memorial Garden on that day. So, bring your blankets and lawn chairs -- and your bicycles, ready to ride.
The liturgy for the bicycle blessing is based on the prophet Ezekiel's mystical vision, in which he reports: "The heavens were opened... and I saw... wheels... moving in all directions!" In addition to this reading from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, we will offer prayers for the safety and enjoyment of cyclists of all ages and for those who have been injured or lost their lives will riding.
This year's Bike to Church Day will also include a Bake & Burrito Sale to benefit the Vacation Bible School’s service project of bringing clean water to those who don’t have it, by funding the building of a well in Africa.
Please join us for this special event and invite your friends!
