This week we ask your prayers as our group of 20 pilgrims (from St. Luke’s and beyond) begins a pilgrimage walking along the Camino from the south of France to the Cathedral at Santiago, Spain.
Walking is a powerful way to integrate body, mind, and spirit in a prayerful and meditative practice. One does not need to make the journey to Spain to realize the faith-building potential of walking in prayer.
Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh affirms,
Anyone can do it. Walking meditation is meditation while walking. We walk slowly, in a relaxed way, keeping a light smile on our lips. When we practice this way, we feel deeply at ease, and our steps are those of the most secure person on earth. All our sorrows and anxieties fall away, and peace and joy fill our hearts. Anyone can do it. It only takes a little time, a little mindfulness, and the wish to be happy.
Springtime in Colorado is a perfect season to consider trying this simple, yet powerful, way of walking with God. May your life be nourished and your faith enlivened with each step you take in faith.
