St. Luke's is engaged in a process of discernment regarding God's call for us to openly welcome, respect, and support people of LGBT orientation. Our sense of call is summed up by St. Paul in his Letter to the Galatians: "In Christ there is no longer Jew or Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for all are one" (3:28).
On Monday, May 8, the Vestry started discussing a motion to become an official Believe Out Loud church.* That productive conversation led to the desire to present to the congregation what it will look like to be a Believe Out Loud church, before the vote is taken.
In addition, we would like to deepen our understanding of Christian marriage and educate ourselves about the gender-neutral Episcopal marriage rite entitled "The Witnessing and Blessing of a Lifelong Covenant."
Thus, the journey continues. During the summer and into early fall, I plan to facilitate conversations around this topic, including a close reading of the Episcopal marriage liturgies. Stay tuned!
* A Believe out Loud church is recognized by the Diocese of Colorado and Integrity USA (the national Episcopal advocacy office for LGBT integration) as one which actively invites the LGBTQIA community into our faith community.
Each week the Rector or the Associate Rector will focus on how God is continuing to call St. Luke's into new life in Christ.
