St. Luke's is facing a dual challenge--not uncommon to many Episcopal Churches--of financially downsizing and spiritually prioritizing.
The silver lining that accompanies our challenge is that we have no choice but to discern and focus on our most important ministries, the ones which are key to realizing God's purpose for our church.
We anticipate significant budget reductions for 2018, which will involve difficult decisions for the Vestry. So on Saturday, January 6, the Vestry will gather together for a half-day retreat led by Ann Fleming, the Diocese of Colorado Missioner for Transition Ministry and Congregational Development.
Ann will guide the Vestry through a process of re-discovering what is essential to the identity of St. Luke's and envisioning what a promising future looks like with a much-reduced budget.
Immediately following the retreat, the Vestry will conduct a business meeting to vote on the final budget for 2018, which will be presented to the congregation at the Annual Gathering on Sunday, January 21. Ann will also be at the Annual Gathering to involve the entire congregation in the visioning process. So please plan to be in attendance.
In preparation for the Annual Gathering, the Rector and Vestry members will host an informal discussion session about our financial challenge and visioning process at 9:30am in the Library on Sunday, January 14.
I am confident that the Holy Spirit will guide us through this challenging time, and in the end our faith will be deepened and our community strengthened.
Yours in Christ,
